Nathan WinogradLike PageFebruary 2 at 12:07pm · Alert: The fate of thousands of Virginia animals hang in the balance. If HB 340 passes, shelters will be allowed to kill thousands of animals a year with impunity.Virginia Delegate Bobby Orrock has filed HB 340, a bill designed to repeal SB 1381, a law passed last year that required Virginia shelters to be “operated for the purpose of finding permanent adoptive homes." In other words, the law required them to do what the public already thinks “shelters” do: find homes for the animals they take in rather than simply kill them.Orrock’s legislation repeals that provision of SB 1381 by allowing “shelters” to be organized solely for the purpose of killing animals, with no requirement that they try to find animals homes. The only thing that can prevail against this is the power of the people.
