[Swiftwater Gazette] Who wants to be a democrat

Elle,

No law against using a shot shells in a pistol. You can get buckshot or slug
loads in .410, however, this reviewer doesn't feel the .410 shell makes a
good defensive round.

http://www.theboxotruth.com/docs/bot41.htm

That said, and I think that reviewer would agree with me, you can use a .45
colt round, which is an excellent defensive round, in this pistol too. BUT,
you could also shoot .45 colt rounds (these are not .45 acp) through a much
smaller and lighter gun than this. I have never met you but, through the
years I have come to understand that you are fairly petite. I have seen and
handled the Judge, both the 2 1/2 and 3 inch versions, petite is not a word
one would use to describe it. It's a darn big pistol. Probably not a great
match for someone with small hands.

If a handgun is on your list maybe look at something like and SR9 or SR9C
Ruger.

http://www.ruger.com/products/sr9/index.html?r=y

I mention Ruger because I find they are more reasonably priced than most
American made brands but still a very rugged well-made firearm.

I personally have a Bersa Thunder Ultra Compact .45ACP. These guns are made
in Argentina, but I read literally hundreds of reviews before I bought mine
and no one had anything but positive things to say about these weapons. I
haven't fired it a lot, but what I have, it has functioned flawlessly. I
might add that it just may be the simplest gun I've ever seen to take down
and reassemble for cleaning. They are also available in 9MM and are of a
size and weight that would be more fitting for a smaller person.

Probably the best recommendation I could make is to go on down to a gun shop
and handle some of these things. Get a feel for what feels good in your
hand. When I was looking for a carry gun, I originally had in mind a P345
Ruger in .45 ACP. Those were on back order and no promise as to when they
might be available again. The Bersa I spoke of above was in the counter case
and it fit my hand like it was made for it. After a long night on the
internet reading reviews, I owned it the next day. There's a ton of
different shapes, sizes and weights of pistols out there, you kinda need to
go try some on.
